Day 7: Magic Kingdom Again

For day 7 we headed back to Magic Kingdom for one more day in the park. The weather (like most days) was a bit chilly in the morning but warmed up within a couple hours to the point we didn't need our jackets again until the sun set.  We started the day out with a family photo on Main Street with the castle in the background.  This photo is currently the wallpaper on our home computer.

Cole's grandma and grandpa Calderwood gave him some cash for his birthday and instructed him to use it at Disney World to buy something he wanted.  After looking at all the parks, Cole was dead set on getting his pirate gear from Pirates of the Caribbean.  He loves his pirate sword and gun.

We spent the day hitting up most of the rides we didn't have time to hit the first day here.  We ended up going to Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin, Stitch's Great Escape (probably the dumbest ride in all of the parks), Tomorrowland People Mover, Space Mountain again, the Barnstormer, Winnie the Pooh ride, Prince Charming Carrousel, and It's a Small World.

After that we went to Haunted Mansion and then got lunch in Liberty Square area.  After lunch we hit up Thunder Mountain Railroad again and then headed over to Tom Sawyer's Island to let the kids run around.  They loved running through the caves and playing at the fort.

They stayed busy for a while "shooting" the passengers on the Thunder Mountain Railroad across the pond.

After a full day of activities we went near Main Street to stake out a spot for the night show and fireworks show.

I videoed the light show on the castle.  My camera doesn't do it justice at all.  Major props to Disney for putting on a great show that evening.

After the light show was the firework show.

After the show we we returned to our hotel, got the kids in their pajamas, and withing a minute they were out cold.  This is usually a good sign that they had a fun day.

It was a fantastic family vacation to Orlando, Florida.  Next up, New Orleans for another dental class.

Day 6: Animal Kingdom

On Monday January 26th we headed in to Animal Kingdom.  It was Cole's 6th birthday that day and he was so happy for all the attention he was receiving from everyone that saw his birthday button.

The kids loved the number and variety of animals that were out and about for viewing in the park.  Disney did a great job of making it feel like you were actually out in the wild and not just in a zoo.
These birds were walking around along the Maharajah Jungle Trek.

Animal Kingdom doesn't have as many rides as the other parks, but it didn't happen to have our favorite ride of all the parks- Expedition Everest.  It was the best roller coaster that we rode.  We enjoyed it so much that it was the only ride that we actually waited in line for more than 15 minutes to ride again.  We had fast passes for the first time, but decided the wait was worth it to go a second time. We also rode Primeval Whirl, Triceratop Spin, and Dinosaur.

After riding a bunch of the rides we caught a showing of the Lion King.  It was very well done and fun to see.  Aside from Expedition Everest, the family favorite was the Kilimanjaro Safari.  We rode through the park in these safari jeeps and around every corner we found new and exciting animals.

It was a birthday that Cole won't soon forget.  When we got back to the hotel we gave him his birthday "cake".  A hostess cup cake.  He loved it.  Happy 6th birthday to Cole!
